FAQ

What is Make Music Vancouver?

Make Music Vancouver is an international music festival that takes place annually on the 21st of June- the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. Hundreds of amateur musicians, from every genre, will perform on sidewalks. Everyone is invited to sing and dance along, and enjoy the first day of summer.

Do Artists get paid?

No, the event is meant to bring out the true passion of people and does not intend to provide an incentive for artists to perform. It is a celebration of music.

Where did the idea come from?

Vancouver’s Make Music event is inspired by France’s Fête de la Musique, a nationwide musical event since 1982.

Throughout the years, this event has become an international phenomenon, celebrated in countries as diverse as Canada, the USA, Germany, Italy, Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Australia, Vietnam, Congo, Cameroon, Fiji, Colombia, Chile, Nepal, and Japan.

Make Music Vancouver is organized by Make Music Vancouver Association, Français du Monde à Vancouver association and the Alliance Française de Vancouver, with the support of the French Consulate.

What if it rains?

This is a rain or shine event. There will be music regardless of the weather. Some parts of Yaletown’s heritage district and restaurant patios are covered, so you can stay dry while playing and listening to music!

Who can play during Make Music Vancouver?

Anyone and everyone is welcome to share their common passion: music! Amateurs, part-time professionals, and established artists are all welcome.

How do I sign up to perform?

You can apply on line by filling the online registration sheet.

What if my band signs up now, and has to cancel later?

We are counting on you to perform as when we process your registration, we assign you a spot and a time window. However, if you do have to cancel, please let us know as early as possible.

How late in the evening can my performance go?

Due to city bylaws, street performances are shut down at 10pm. Celebrations are then taken indoors into bars and pubs.

Who will provide a spot for my performance?

If you have specific needs – for example, your performance includes dancers, and you need a large space to accommodate them – feel free to contact Sandy: sandy@makemusicvancouver.com

I WANT TO HELP OUT!

Do you need volunteers?

How can I get involved as a volunteer?

We are always happy to have new members joining our volunteer’s team. There are several different roles that need to be filled. For more information, pleasecontact Josh: josh@makemusicvancouver.com
